 Known for its World Class skiing, many vacationers head to Steamboat to wallow in its deep Champagne Powder® snow. What many people do not realize is Steamboat was originally a summer vacation town.
Real Town
Natural hot springs attracted Steamboat’s first visitors as early as 1902, around the same time the town started holding rodeos. Today Steamboat hosts a myriad of outdoor events and activities for the whole family. From its hiking and biking trails, to fishing and kayaking the Yampa River, and an array of downtown shops and restaurants, Steamboat Springs has more to offer than it did 100 years ago. Although tradition still holds with its weekend ProRodeo series and a choice of relaxing springs for soaking.
Ski Town USA
 Steamboat’s skiing tradition began in 1913 when Norwegian Carl Howelsen organized the first Winter Carnival, a popular February event ever since. January’s Cowboy Downhill features ProRodeo cowboys on skis and snowboards racing through a slalom course. Steamboat, nicknamed “Ski Town USA®” has been home of over 50 Winter Olympians and often hosts Nordic Combined and Freestyle World Cup skiing events.
