Body Marking
Body marking will take place on race morning prior to the race start in an area located just outside the transition area. You must be body marked before the transition area closes.
Transition Information
Transition area opens at 6:00 a.m. Bikes will be racked at that time and any gear for the bike to run transition will be placed near your bike. There is no required bike check for the event. The transition area is closed to spectators. After the race, transition crews will assist you in claiming your gear. All bikes must be removed from the bike lot by 12:00pm. You must claim all your gear as you exit on race day.
Wetsuits
Wetsuits will be permitted in accordance with USA Triathlon Rules & Regulations. Wetsuits are highly recommended! The water temperature is expected to be between 66-70 degrees in August.
Swim Course
The ¾ mile swim is held at Lake Catamount, tucked in between the final passage of Rabbit Ears pass and the gateway to Steamboat’s vast Yampa Valley. It will be a water start and buoys will mark the distances. Please check later for the Lake Map which will take you through the swim course, in addition to the schedule for practice swimming in Lake Catamount during the weeks prior to the race. Kayakers, Lifeguards, and speed boats will assist athletes during the swim portion of the event.
Bike Course
The 20 mile bike course is an out and back course, where athletes will experience the breathtaking scenery the Yampa Valley is famous for. Ride past turn of the century barns, travel along the Yampa River, and breath the fresh air of the Rockies while racing to the country’s oldest ski jumping hill, Howelsen Hill. Besides River Road, which will be only open to local/resident traffic, all other roads are open to traffic. You must ride on the right hand side of the road, unless instructed by a police officer; or, if we have a section specially coned. Please be aware, courteous, and respectful of the neighbors, drivers, and other folks on the roads.
Run Course
The 4-mile run course takes place on dirt roads around Lake Catamount. The road will be open to traffic. You must run on the right hand side of the road, unless instructed by a police officer; or, if we have a section specially coned. There are aid stations every mile.
Aid Stations
There will be one aid station on the bike course; however, due to the course being out-and-back, this will be available at approximately both miles 6 and 13. This station will have sport drink in bottles, water bottles, and an energy gel. We will have two aid stations on the run course, but, again, as this is an out-and-back run, you will have aid at miles 1, 2, and 3. Sport drink and water will be available at these stations, as well.

Communication
Please stay tuned to the website, Facebook and Linked In for daily blogs and communication. Also, we will send out newsletter and Email updates to all registered participants. A final race update will be sent approximately 10 days prior to the race. Please keep us posted on any email update addresses that may affect you. Also, we welcome any comments or suggestions you may have, especially if you live in Steamboat! We are constantly striving to better the experience for everyone so keep in touch!
Volunteers
We love Volunteers! If you are interested in volunteering on Saturday or Sunday, you are in for a treat. Volunteers will receive a goodie bag full of sponsor items, in addition to a t-shirt. Additionally, we welcome all volunteers to join us for the awards ceremony where we will include you in wonderful drawings provided by local, Steamboat sponsors. For volunteering, please email info@steamboattriathlon.com.
Parking
Upon entering into Lake Catamount at the intersection of the Transition Area, you will be directed to travel approximately ½ mile to a parking area on the right-hand side. Please follow Volunteer’s instructions and do not park on the county road. This road will be used as access for the run in/out and you will be towed if you park in this location. Come prepared and put your gear in a backpack so you’re able to walk the short jaunt to the transition area. If you are a volunteer, please arrive early so you are able to park in this same location. Absolutely no parking will be allowed at or near the clubhouse – this is the location for the bike in/out.
Doggies
We love our dogs! However, for this year Lake Catamount has requested that your pets be left at home. Also, it is dangerous to leave your pets in your vehicle while you race or are a spectator. Please do not leave your pets in your automobile. Temperatures have been known to increase into the 80’s by late morning so take care of your pets and leave them at home.
