Haymaker Golf Course

The Course
The newest public golf course to grace the Yampa Valley, Haymaker is a bit of Scotland right here in the west. The rolling fairways, deep bunkers, meandering streams and surrounding native grasses give Haymaker a Scottish feel that makes it unique among mountain golf courses.
And that's not all that's different about Haymaker. The course sits within a 233 acre site. And there's no residential development which means the outside world seems to disappear once you're on the course.
Haymaker was nominated as one of Golf Digest's "Best New Courses" of 1998 and has been accepted as an Audubon Signature Course. Welcome to the course that has been called an "Environmental Wonder."

18-hole public golf course in the heart of Steamboat Springs, Colorado's Yampa Valley. Integrate the rich pastoral background of this ranching community. Maintain the precious balance of nature. And finally, give golfers a championship golf course they can be proud of. Oh, and don't forget to build it on time, on budget and somehow get it done between the 350 inches of snow that blankets the surrounding mountains in the winter.
Foster, designer of the award-winning Quarry golf course in San Antonio, Texas, went to work designing a course that would be challenging, but user friendly. The design would also incorporate the 360 degree views of the surrounding valley and mountains and maintain native grasses and wetlands. There, out of the rock piles created by previous attempts to build a golf course, emerged Haymaker.
This 233 acre, city-owned public golf course features at least four sets of tees per hole, each playing from 5,059 to 7,308 yards. It has been described as a core golf course built for golfers. The course offers good green size with different cupping positions. It also has a substantial practice area - driving range, sand trap, chipping and putting green. Haymaker accommodates and challenges golfers of all ability levels from novice to professional.
